HVM VS MARKETING AUTOMATION

Still building workflows?
Meet Henry.

HubSpot. Salesforce. Marketo. Even the new generation of AI sales platforms. They’ve made marketing automation increasingly sophisticated. But you’re still responsible for designing much of the machinery.

Henry approaches marketing differently.
You set the strategy. He figures out what needs doing.

Henry, the friendly face of HVM, framed by a pink-to-orange ring

YOU’RE IN CHARGE. HENRY GETS TO WORK.

THE DIFFERENCE

The difference isn’t more AI.
It’s less work for you.

They’ve automated marketing. Henry rethinks how marketing works.

PROCESS FIRST

You design the process.
The software executes it.

Define audiences. Design campaigns. Configure workflows, qualification rules, sequences, triggers and conditions. Monitor performance. Decide what should happen next.

Audience → Rules → Sequence → Review

CONTEXT FIRST

You define the objectives.
Henry determines the next action.

Explain your business and ideal customers. Set priorities and boundaries. Henry researches opportunities, creates content, interprets interactions and uses outcomes to inform his next decision.

Objective → Context → Action → Evidence ↻

This contrasts operating models, not every feature of every product. Today’s platforms combine configured processes with increasingly capable AI. HVM is a marketing operating platform designed around continuous contextual decisions.

Every Henry has a Queen. And that Queen can be you.

As a CMO, Marketing Director, Head of Marketing or business owner, you retain strategy, priorities, commercial judgement, budgets, approvals and governance. Henry’s autonomy stays within your permissions. No external operator is required.

How Henry works ↗

FOUR PLATFORMS. ONE PRACTICAL QUESTION.

What does the marketing leader still have to do?

01 / HVM VS HUBSPOT

HubSpot automates your workflows. Henry doesn’t need you to build them.

A broad customer platform spanning CRM, marketing, sales, service and AI.

Verified

What it does well

HubSpot brings customer data and teams together, with marketing, sales and service tools. Its AI agents can research prospects, personalise outreach, maintain data and handle customer support.[3][2]

What you still configure

Start a workflow with AI, a template or a blank canvas. You still review enrolment triggers, actions and settings before publishing, and maintain that configuration as your needs change.[1]

HubSpot also supports agentic workflows and configurable agents. AI can do substantive work inside the platform; the comparison here is about the workflow and agent configuration the user still owns.[2]

Henry’s different starting point

You define the strategy and permitted actions. Henry evaluates context to decide what to do next, reducing the need to anticipate each customer journey in a workflow editor.

Do I want to build better workflows, or spend less time building workflows?

02 / HVM VS SALESFORCE MARKETING CLOUD

Salesforce helps you design customer journeys. Henry responds to the journey your customer actually takes.

Customer data, personalisation, journey automation and AI.

Verified

What it does well

Journey Builder combines customer entry sources, messaging, decision paths and Einstein optimisation. Agentforce Journey Decisioning adds dynamic journey selection and personalised content based on behaviour, profile and context.[4][5]

What you still configure

In Journey Builder, marketers establish entry sources, activities, waits and splits. Journey Decisioning also needs administrator setup, use cases and instructions, with journeys created for it to select from.[4][5]

Salesforce supports adaptive decisions, not just fixed paths. Journey Decisioning is documented for Marketing Cloud Engagement+ editions; availability and configuration matter when comparing approaches.[5]

Henry’s different starting point

HVM puts continuous next-best-action reasoning at the centre of the operation. When behaviour changes, Henry reassesses context, history, priorities and permissions rather than asking you to map every possible path in advance.

How much journey design and upkeep will my team still own?

03 / HVM VS ADOBE MARKETO ENGAGE

Marketo gives you powerful marketing automation. Henry takes away much of the work of managing it.

Marketing automation, lead management and campaign operations.

Verified

What it does well

Marketo combines lead management, CRM connections, campaign execution and measurement. Adobe also describes agentic workflows, generative content and campaigns that adapt to customer behaviour.[7]

What you still configure

A Smart Campaign uses a Smart List to select people through filters and triggers, a Flow to define steps and conditional choices, and a Schedule to determine execution. Users establish the logic driving that campaign.[6]

Marketo’s broader product includes AI and adaptive capabilities. Smart Campaign structure is a specific operating-model comparison, not a claim that the whole product is static.[7][6]

Henry’s different starting point

You establish the objective and rules of engagement. Henry uses the available evidence to choose appropriate actions, aiming to remove much of the recurring work of maintaining campaign logic.

Who will keep the campaign logic relevant as customers and priorities change?

04 / HVM VS ALTA

Alta has AI agents. Henry goes beyond predefined sequences.

AI agents for prospecting, outreach and revenue activity.

Verified

What it does well

Alta is closer to HVM’s philosophy: AI researches prospects, personalises multichannel outbound and connects to CRM systems. Its campaign Reply Assistant can handle incoming prospect replies automatically.[10][12]

What you still configure

Its August–September 2026 release introduced natural-language sequence creation inside the campaign builder, including branching rules. Campaign setup still covers audience, pitch, touchpoints, delays and launch preferences.[9][11]

Alta has intelligent signal analysis, reply handling and autonomous campaign execution. Autopilot enrols prospects automatically; Copilot lets a person vet them before they enter the flow. It is more than a workflow builder.[10][12]

Henry’s different starting point

Alta can use AI to help create a sequence. HVM is designed to remove the need for predefined sequences altogether. Henry continually assesses what should happen next, including whether to communicate at all, within your boundaries.

Do I still need to specify the sequence before the work can begin?

COMPARE THE WORK, NOT JUST THE FEATURES

Different platforms.
Different ways of working.

Product capability and operating model are different questions. These summaries describe the documented approaches above. Features vary by edition and setup; “not assessed” does not mean unavailable.

THE WORK BEHIND THE SOFTWARE

The subscription isn’t the whole cost.

The real cost of marketing technology isn’t just what you pay for the software. It’s what you still have to do to make it work.

  • Configuration
  • Workflow design
  • Campaign management
  • Data maintenance
  • Integrations
  • Reporting
  • Specialist operations expertise
  • Ongoing optimisation
  • Additional tools

How much time does your marketing platform give back to you?

Henry is designed to reduce operational effort, so more of your attention goes into customers, opportunities and commercial decisions. You still own the strategy and review the evidence. The aim is less machinery to manage.

AN ILLUSTRATION, NOT A CUSTOMER CASE STUDY

Same customer.
Two very different approaches.

A prospect visits your website and spends time exploring a service. What happens next?

A configured automation approach

  1. A marketer defines the audience and visit trigger.
  2. They set qualification conditions and build follow-up messages.
  3. Timing, branches and exceptions determine the response.
  4. The campaign runs; the marketer monitors and adjusts its logic as circumstances change.

AI may help build or optimise this process. The configured campaign still provides its structure.

Henry’s contextual approach

  1. Henry observes the permitted interaction and connects available customer context.
  2. He allows time to understand it, assesses the opportunity and researches further if needed.
  3. He chooses an appropriate action, which may be to wait, communicate or ask you.
  4. He executes within his authority or escalates for approval, then evaluates the outcome.

The next decision follows the evidence, within your objectives and boundaries.

Illustrative approaches, not a claim that every competitor follows a fixed path. Identity, available data, integration permissions and consent determine what Henry can observe and do. A page visit alone does not identify someone or grant permission to contact them.

DIRECT THE MARKETING. RECLAIM YOUR ATTENTION.

Stop managing marketing automation.
Start directing marketing.

You know where your business needs to go. Henry helps work out how to get there. Less time designing nurture sequences for every situation. Less coordination of disconnected activities. One intelligent marketing operation, working towards your objectives.
